MTN to probe Iran bribery allegations

MTN, the South African telecommunications group, said on Thursday that it was setting up a special committee to investigate allegations made by Turkcell that it bribed Iranian and South African officials to win Iran’s second mobile licence.

MTN said the committee would be headed by Lord Leonard Hoffmann, a respected former judge, and its establishment appeared to be a move to pre-empt potential legal action against the company by Turkcell, Turkey’s biggest mobile operator.
